When I ran for office in our competitive district, my mailbox -- just like yours -- was flooded with negative campaign postcards. Both of the establishment campaigns and their political action committees poured money into tearing each other down. It was exhausting to watch, and frankly, it felt entirely empty. What was completely missing from all that noise was any productive discussion about the actual issues affecting our community and our daily lives. That toxic, hyper-partisan political atmosphere is exactly why I am running. I believe you deserve a campaign -- and a representative -- focused on real solutions, not partisan bickering. Let's move past the division and focus on what truly matters to the people who live here.
The constant redistricting by both establishment parties has wasted taxpayer dollars on endless court battles and confused voters for years. I will sponsor legislation to establish an independent, non-partisan body to create compact electoral districts and end gerrymandering once and for all.
North Carolina's Certificate of Need laws stifle competition in health care by restricting who can build or expand medical facilities. The result is an artificially limited supply of health care services, higher costs, and longer wait times for patients. I will fight to repeal these laws and open the market to competition so that more providers can serve more North Carolinians.
North Carolina's students are not all the same, and a one-size-fits-all system run by politicians and bureaucrats fails too many of them -- especially kids with special learning needs and families without financial means. I will fight to expand Education Savings Accounts, grow the Opportunity Scholarship program, and open enrollment across district lines so that every family can find the right fit for their child and tax dollars follow the student, not the system.
North Carolina's tax and regulatory policies too often protect well-connected special interests at the expense of entrepreneurs, small businesses, and working families. I will fight to eliminate unnecessary occupational licensing requirements, remove restrictions that force unfair business relationships like those between craft brewers and distribution middlemen, lower the barriers to starting a new business, and support the sharing economy so that every North Carolinian has a real shot at economic success.
